Arrange a burial

There is alot of information to take on board and we appreciate that you will have alot on your mind and may be feeling quite overwhelmed.

If you do not have someone to support you with this, Mary is happy to go through it with you.

Some of the information will cover legal requirements, some is essential to preserve the essence of the natural burial ethos and some is more practical information that will help your day run smoothly.

Here you will find a summary of the most important things to start with.  Please take some time to absorb the rest when you feel able.

There is some really helpful information on the government website about what to do after someone dies https://www.gov.uk/after-a-death

  • Call Mary on 07899 065364 to arrange a visit or fill out the 'Arrange a burial' form below and she will contact you as quickly as possible.

  • Download our Information Pack (link below).  This includes all the relevant forms you will need to proceed and alot of the information on the website, should you prefer to download and read a printed version.

  • Decide if you are going to use a funeral director or direct the burial yourselves.

  • Collect the relevant paperwork required to proceed - a certificate of burial (green form) is the minimum required.

  • A provisional confirmation can then be made.

  • Familiarise yourself with the infomation about what to expect on the day and share with others attending the burial.

Before the burial

On the day of the burial

  • We will meet in the main Thoulstone Park car park at the prearranged time.

  • Either a funeral director or Mary, if directing yourselves, will lead proceedings from this point.

  • Wear suitable clothing, wellies and waterproofs are fitting attire for a natuarl burial, particularly in winter!  Generally suitable footwear is essential as you are walking into a sheep grazed meadow.

  • Be aware of the rules and regulations around floral tributes and memorials and make sure others are aware.  A simple posy can be left.

After the event

  • Mary will send the 'applicant' the relevant paperwork, a certificate of interment, a map with the grave location and how to find it and a feedback form.

  • If a memorial plaque has been ordered, Mary will contact you to arrange a time to meet at the site to place the plaque in the memorial board.

Gathering area.JPEG

The Gathering Area is accessible all year round within Thoulstone Park's opening times via a permissive footpath and pedestrian gate from the burial meadow.

It can be used

  • for ceremonies during a burial

  • as an area for you to enjoy a picnic after a burial

  • a place to visit the memorial board or just sit on the bench to enjoy some peace and reflexion.

To arrange a burial now....

As soon as a death has been certified you can send Mary this form and we can start proceedings.   You can of course call her if you would prefer
